There's an older person near you right now who needs your friendship.
In the words of one of our clients,
"My Neighbor to Neighbor volunteer called me when a winter storm was coming to ask if I needed anything. She took me to my doctor's appointment and made sure I had groceries for the next few days. She gave me peace of mind."
The 85-and-older population is expected to triple between 2008 and 2050. Add to that, the reality that as many as half of Nemaha County's elderly do not have children living here to help them.
Without caring friends and neighbors – like Neighbor to Neighbor volunteers – who will provide the essential assistance these people need to remain living independently?
Delaying nursing home care for those who want to remain independent saves resources for both the individual and society. Neighbor to Neighbor's total annual budget is less than the cost of one year for one person in a nursing home.
